A British firm has played a part in helping Francois Hollande to win the French presidential election.

Esendex, one of the market leaders in text messaging for businesses, handled almost one million messages for Hollande during the campaign.

The company, based in Nottingham, managed texts from Hollandes team to supporters to let them know when he was campaigning in their area.

It also sent out texts informing voters of key parts of Hollandes manifesto.

On voting day itself Hollandes team around the country used Esendexs texting software to send information on voting trends back to the campaign headquarters in Paris.

The project was handled by the companys southern Europe office in Barcelona.

Esendex worked with the new French president throughout his campaign. It began earlier in the year with his fight to win the Socialist Partys nomination to stand as their candidate and continued through to Sundays decisive vote when Hollande was elected President of France.

At the end of his successful campaign Hollande sent a congratulatory message to his supporters, by text.

It is just one of a host of high-profile customers the company has won in Europe where its business is growing at 50 per cent a year.

The firm has also won the contract to supply text messages for the Tour de France, the French Open tennis tournament and the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

Other clients include the Spanish Blood Transfusion Service.

Chief Commercial Officer, Geoff Love, said; We are absolutely flying in Europe.

The Hollande campaign was a spectacular example of the power of texting to reach large audiences and to motivate people. But really, as you can see from our list of clients, it can be used in just about any sphere of business.

As well as rapid growth abroad, Esendex, is also performing strongly in the UK where business is growing at 20 per cent a year.

Customers include Ocado, Specsavers and BAA.
